‘Dean’ came to Solo Housing in August 2017 after living in a tent for ten years. When first joining Solo ‘Dean’ had a very negative outlook on life and found it hard to engage with staff as he had become very isolated while rough sleeping. However, ‘Dean’ formed good friendships with other residents he was sharing with and, after a couple of months, adjusted to living in a house.

‘Dean’ needed assistance with health issues, attending appointments and taking medication and was also supported with managing his money and benefit claims. Funding was sought to help him buy clothes for the winter. Within a few months ‘Dean’ was ready to register on Choice Based Lettings to start weekly bidding on properties and, having bid regularly for some time, he was invited to view a property for over 60’s in Ipswich and was accepted. Within two weeks ‘Dean’ was helped to move by Solo staff into his new home, a good sized flat with new kitchen and carpets. ‘Dean’ was thrilled to have a place of his own.

Within a year of moving into supported accommodation ‘Dean’s’ life had transformed from sleeping rough in a tent to having a permanent and safe place to call home.
