Skills & Training taster day offers pathways to independence for people in temporary accommodation
By Fiona Carling on 5.9.19
On Friday 20th September we have a programme of free, short taster courses for people who are homeless or in temporary accommodation helping them explore the next steps towards increased security and self-sufficiency. We will draw on skills from tutors and coaches around Norfolk.
Our skills & taster day is part of an on-going consultation to improve and develop services for vulnerable single people in rural Norfolk. Having held a consultation with single people in temporary accommodation, the charity has developed a training and taster day, informed by the results.
Gardening, DIY and pet care were at the top of the list of existing skills respondents to the survey wanted to build on. The taster & training day will offer an informal schedule of sessions to explore and enquire about developing skills and interests to enhance employment, well-being and life skills.
The training and taster day is being held at Diss Football Club from 11:00 to 16:30 on Friday 20th September. Participants will be given lunch, refreshments and shopping vouchers as well as opportunities to take part in short sessions to develop practical skills, coaching to help manage negative thinking, support personal well-being and consider how to develop employment opportunities in areas such as gardening, DIY and IT. St Martins Housing Trust, Norfolk County Council and The Corn Hall Diss are amongst the organisations taking part in offering free taster sessions. There will also be assistance with transport to the venue for those who need it
Anyone interested in attending the day can contact SoloHousing by calling 0800 652 0155 or visit Solo Housing (East Anglia) Ltd 12a St Nicholas Street, Diss, Norfolk IP22 4LB.
